You know, sometimes I think I love children’s books waaaay too much.

Especially considering how I am going to be an adult in 119 days.

But seriously. I love to read, but I think “literature” is boring and my favorite books/series are:

• Harry Potter (okay to be fair, people of all ages love Harry Potter)
• The Princess Diaries
• A Series of Unfortunate Events
• The Tail of Emily Windsnap
• Nancy Drew
• Magic Tree House
• Anything by Shel Silverstein
• Or Dr. Seuss
• some other YA stuff that is actually “appropriate” for my age

Maybe this is why I don’t like anything we ever read in English.

Oh God does this make me tasteless and uneducated?

I should just be a children’s author or something and problem solved.

and my mom came in there all like

“you guys know I realized I was too attached to soap operas when I cried at (some dude)’s death”

and I was like

bitch Harry Potter ain’t no soap opera.

neither of my parents will ever understand. it’s real for us. this is our life. it’s been our life for so long, and they just don’t get it that seeing Snape die is really fucking emotional and it wrenches your heart apart, and seeing him cry over Lily’s body and hearing him say he’ll do anything to protect her, and ALWAYS.

part of this is the fact that Alan Rickman should receive every acting award EVER but

the bigger part is that this is a story that means something very real for my sister and me, and so many other people all around the world. it’s not just a movie. it’s not just a book. it’s a real, tangible thing that helped shape me as a person and quite literally saved my life a few times. my mom just doesn’t understand how emotional it is to see that stuff on screen. the music alone makes me cry, and then when paired with the brilliant acting.

it’s a tale about growing up and realizing who you are and loving someone so much you are willing to sacrifice everything for them, and that’s something really powerful. but people who haven’t read the books just don’t understand that. they think it’s a cute fantasy story about a magical school, and it is at first, but it just grows into something bigger than life, that so many people in so many different languages and places and stages of life can all just connect to, and it brings us together as humans, you know? realizing that we all just have this thing in common, there’s good and bad in all of us, but we all have the capacity to love, and no matter where we grew up or how we were raised, we can choose who we want to be. that’s just such an amazing, powerful message that kind of transcends media and culture and the world we live in, you know? it’s bigger than all of us, but we can all take part in it and grow together.

I’m sorry I’m being so cheesy but this just means so much to me, and the fact that my mom thinks we’re crying because we “care too much”… well yeah. we do. this story has given me hope so many times my life has seemed hopeless. these lines and these characters mean something very, very real to me. and yeah it’s gonna make me cry. I just wish she’d try to understand before judging how I feel.

I HAVE EVERY SINGLE TWO-DISC HARRY POTTER DVD EDITION. WITH THE SPECIAL FEATURES AND PRETTY CASES AND WHATNOT. I AM SO PROUD OF THAT. SO PROUD. IT SITS IN THE LIVING ROOM PERFECTLY DUST FREE AND ORGANIZED AND SHINY.

SO I WAS SUPER EXCITED FOR TONIGHT TO GET THE FINAL ONE TO COMPLETE MY FLAWLESS COLLECTION.

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I CAN’T DO THAT.

ALSO MY MOTHER JUST WENT TO BUY THE DVD FOR ME TO BE NICE AND SHE’S PAYING FOR IT EVEN THOUGH I WAS GOING TO BECAUSE SHE KNEW HOW MUCH I’VE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS DAY FOR WEEKS AND IT WAS REALLY SWEET OF HER AND NOW I CAN’T EVEN BE GRATEFUL BECAUSE NOW MY COLLECTION IS INADEQUATE.
